Festival is one of USAFH’s oldest and strongest attended tournaments. Held each Thanksgiving weekend since 1981, Festival welcomes thousands of athletes, coaches, umpires, and fans alike each year across the United States and Canada. 2020 will be the 40th year of Festival! It is also a major recruiting tournament for the athletes in the United States where college coaches line up on the sideline to see the best in the country. Games are played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - usually in Florida, but Festival has been held in Arizona, Colorado and this year we are headed to Charlotte, North Carolina. We will hold 10 practices before we go. Training is usually held Sunday mornings at the WE turf, but may be held at NC Turf due to COVID. If we go to the NC turf we may be Sunday evenings. Practices are 1 - 1 /2 hours in length.
Indoor field hockey, referred to as indoor, starts in January and goes until late February. There are 10 -11 players total on a team, 6 players start, including the GK. Playing surface is a small court the size of a basketball court. The rules of indoor are very different and can take some getting used to, but are complementary to the game of field hockey. The value of the game of indoor, is that it is so fast paced, that the speed of the game and the development of stick skills is unmatched. “Side boards” are used to bump the ball against which increases tactical play and strategy. The Indoor season consists of 4 -5 tournaments within NJ & PA, culminating with a final tournament where you try to qualify to make the NIT’s (National Indoor Tournament - held out in Lancaster PA - or Richmond, VA), by attending NITQ’s which are tournaments that if you win, and place high enough you are selected to make the NIT Tournament. If that happens and we go the the NIT, there will be a nominal fee for the additional practices and training. Training dates listed in calendar.
Shooting Star Tournaments were founded in 2016, when there was a desire in the field hockey community for showcase tournaments on synthetic turf fields. Starting with Thanksgiving in 2016, Shooting Star now hosts 10 tournaments nation-wide, servicing athletes ranging from U10 to Masters (35+).
While expanding, Shooting Star has stayed true to their fundamental values, catering to every athlete, club coach, college coach, umpire, parent and fan – striving to provide a professional, inspiring and authentic experience. The testimonials throughout the years speak to just that.

This is a newer movement in the game of USAFH. Started in 2011, club teams battle it out in a Regional Club Championship (RCC) in order to earn a spot at the National Club Championship (NCC). Regional qualifiers identify the best club teams in the country to compete at the premier National Club Championship. There are 3 girls divisions and it is a highly competitive atmosphere.
Held each July, the NCC is an ideal opportunity for clubs to compete against one another on the pitch for age division champion rights and the opportunity hoist the Harrow Sports Golden Stick.
